Microconic Advantages
A Microconic Cartridge & Collet system is the best workholding choice for small diameter workpieces that range from 0.0086" to 0.3949". The single piece internal design of the cartridge minimizes vibration while at the same time insuring that the material stock remains on centerline with nearly 360° of workpiece contact and adjustable & measurable clamping pressure.
Increased Tool Clearance
Microconic has an extended nose for additional tool clearance that you will not find in any other workholding collet. The unique single piece construction of the internal body of the our cartridges provides the most rigid and concentric method of holding parts available today. The Microconic design provides better tool clearance and allows machining to take place very close to the chuck face.
Eliminates Collet Flexing
Another major advantage of the Extended nose design of the our cartridges is that the closing pressure is applied directly over the workpiecea that very tip of the nosepiece. Traditional extended nose collets have problems with flexing of the collet jaws when the collet is closing since the pressure is applied a considerable distance away from the chucked part. The collet will flex open at the opening of the collet, exactly where the part is being held.

Significantly reduce or eliminate chucking damage
Since the chucking force is directed straight over the workpiece, our customers have found that chucking damage is virtually eliminated, even on the most delicate chucking surfaces, like your bone screw threads. You have full control of your chucking force!

Increase chucking force
You will find the gripping force to be amazing, with no micro movement with full control of the chucking pressure. And, once you have found the chucking pressure sweet spot, you can document the precise chucking pressure setting on your tool sheet, eliminating the guess work for the next time it is to be set up.

Shifting operations from the main spindle to the sub-spindle.
This is probably the most significant potential advantage of the Microconic System. In the sub-spindle where the cycle time can be overlapped with the main spindle operations, with concentricity of less than .0002 TIR! Microconic Overgrip Collets can open 4mm over the chucking diameter.

Set-up Time Savings
Documenting the chucking pressure setting can be a real set up time saver. In addition to this, there is a significant savings in changing of the Microconic collet vs a traditional collet. Once the Microconic cartridge is installed (once installed, it never needs to be taken out), the Microconic collets simply threads in and threads out of the cartridge from the front! Adjusting the collet pressure is a breeze using the collet wrench.

Longer Tool Life
Our customers have found that because of the extremely ridged chucking force, tooling is lasting longer. Broaches, bores, mills, etc, have all experienced longer tool life. In one case, in our shop, we increased our cut off tool life 500%, from 60 pcs per tool to 300+. This was a case of moving a mill operation on the cut off end of the part to the sub-spindle, eliminating the interrupted cut for the cut off. Moving the milling to the sub wasn't possible without Microconic.

Improved Quality
With a firmer grip and less chucking damage for sub-spindle operations, the overall quality of parts is significantly increased with better finishes, tighter tolerances and virtually unmeasureable concentricity runnout.

Increased collet life
Microconic collets are extremely hard. Sometimes our customers were required to use soft or emergency collets in the sub-spindle to achieve concentricity requirements. They wear out quickly and deteriorate the quality of the part. And, if ever there was chip wrap on a part being chucked on, it would ruin the collet because of the embedded chips in the collet. Even traditional hard collets would show damage after chucking on just a few parts that had chip wrap. The Microconic collets showed no signs of wear even after many parts were chucked on with chip wrap.

High Speed Operation
The Microconic system is less vulnerable to centrifugal force, which enables us to run at higher speeds while maintaining consistent clamping force.

Eliminates wear on sub-spindle sleeve
Once a Microconic cartridge is installed in your machine, the spindle sleeve no longer sees the normal back and forth motion of the collet in the sleeve, eliminating wear. This saves $$ in the long run from changing out the worn sleeve.
Microconic Collet standardization- All of our collets are interchangeable from one cartridge size to another. The same collet will work in a machine that takes a 5C, TF25, TF37, or TF20.
